Dang that's exactly what the landlord was telling me.. that it cause it because of the grass that isn't mow at all.. that's what make mice comes in our house.. every single day I keep hearing them or sees them. Even my dogs sees them as well.. and it scares me because I saw one in my son's room and a lot of dropping. But that's what I'm worry about... but yes I tried to tell BD to get on it but doesn't listen and says it's okay.. when I know it's not because it's causing the mice and it's making me to look bad "not responsible" but all of this helps so much.

@alesaca2, the lawn and grounds do not have to be maintained unless it's specified in your lease (which it sounds like it's not). If it's specified in your lease that the renters (you and your bd) are responsible for maintaining the yard, then you need to get your BD on that or else your landlord might say that the overgrown yard is what's attracting the mice, and honestly it could be. Bugs and rodents love tall grass. My husband and I do not maintain the yard of our rental unit. The tenants have to do that, and we hire a gardener to come in a couple times a year and weed the flower beds and stuff, but that's it. If you can afford it, having someone come mow your lawn is pretty cheap. If you find someone in your area on Craigslist it would be about $20 for them to come once a month.

@ciraclesmiracle, omg perfect.! And what about "mow the lawn"? Because he was telling me that I need to mow the lawn (been trying to tell BD to do it and never does it. We have live here for 6 months and only does it once. The grass is ridiculous messy and tall. And our front yard and backyard we kept having cats! And ate our fishes and turtle in our little pond. It's ridiculous. I don't even know what to do.. and the landlord wouldn't take care of it and told me that it was "already cleaned when you moved in" (one time) but wouldn't take care of it and it's my responsibility and I have to call the pros and take care of it

I also live in California. My husband and I have a rental property and as landlords WE are responsible to keep the property habitable. That means that we are responsible for pest control, as a home infested with vermin is not habitable. The exception is if the tenants are not keeping a sanitary home (ex: not disposing of garbage properly, which could attract bugs or rodents). Let me see if I can find the verbiage for CA landlord/tenant rights that states this. If you come back to your landlord and tell him that what he's doing is illegal, he will quickly change his tune.

@elileemoreland, ugh, I know I can move out and lives with my grandparents when I already have an extra room.. because my boyfriend is staying and taking responsibility so I told him I'm moving out cause he isn't helping and landlord isn't either. I'm just sick and tired of cleaning up mice dropping. Thanks for the answer.. this helps and that's it I'm moving...

@Emil eemoreland, I definitely did that and he was telling me that it's our responsibility and I'm 27 weeks pregnant. Boyfriend doesn't help me clean the house or anything at all. I'm moving out for a while.. but idk if I should actually move out for good because it has been 3 months and nothing was fixed and boyfriend doesn't want to kill the "mice" so I'm on my own with my 4 years old son and with my unborn child breathing the dust by cleaning up all the poop. Not even worth it :/
