I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but why do so many women here seem to have a problem with the word "vagina"? I see a lot of posts that refer to "down there", "down low", 😺, "downstairs", va jay jay, etc. We're all adults and have either had a baby or are going to have a baby, so I don't see why we should be embarrassed to say the anatomical word--it's called a vagina!
Thanks for answering. 😊 Hearing someone else's input really helps me for when the time comes. I am quite certain I'll be teaching her vagina and if she's shy about it then I'll go with private part as you stated. I just told my husband and he is all for it. But then stated I'll be having that talk with her since I'm the mom and she's a girl lol. @ciraclesmiracle
@babynessa, I think that "cookie" is too cutesy and I totally see how that would be confusing and could cause miscommunication. My mother taught us vagina, but I was embarrassed by the word and deferred to "private parts". I plan on teaching my son to call it a penis not a "pee pee" or "winky" or whatever. I would much rather him use the anatomical word.
@daylenerebecca, I get that--I just don't understand how that's possible after having a baby. I mean, I pushed a baby out of my vagina in front of 3 midwives and my husband. And then I laid there spread-eagle and got my torn labia stitched up. At one point the midwife had to ask the assistant, "Jen--can you hold this labia?". Personally, after living through that not much can embarrass me or make me uncomfortable. Obviously everyone is different but I have a hard time understanding how an anatomical term makes anyone uncomfortable, but to each her own!
I love this post. The only time I say va jay jay is to annoy my husband because he hates it. Other than that it's a vagina. I have a question it's kind of on the same topic. But I asked my husband what we should teach our daughter to call it. I was taught as a child to call it a "cookie." But now that I'm a mom and older I'm not so sure about it being called a cookie. What if she came home and said "mom someone touched my cookie." How would I know if it's cookie as in the food or as in the vagina. What would you teach your child? I'm leaning more for vagina so she's learns the correct word for it and there's no mix up.
@babynessa, I totally understand that! I don't think any father wants to broach that subject with his daughter at any point in their lives!!! 😂
