So my 6 week old hasn't pooped since Thursday except for very very little Sunday. Iv tried gas drops, grip water, rubbing her belly, laying her on her belly and bicycling her legs. What else can I do to help her???
That's about the time my baby stopped going several times a day everytime. I was told it's because the laxative leaves our milk and so now their bodies are having to work to build up the core muscle to push it out. As long as it's not hard when it comes out then baby isn't constipated. The person above is right with not helping out much. The baby needs to learn to build their muscles because you can't be there to help them poop for forever. It's a distressing time but it's part of their development.
Don't do it all the time or they will rely on it but I do it when she absolutely needs it. I use a thermometer and you stick it in there rectum just a little bit and slide it in and out for about 45 seconds and I do small circular motions too and she usually poops right after.
I would ask your doc.. if my breastfed 3 month old doesn't poop daily he is miserable. I rectal stimulate when he goes without pooping for 24 hrs but my doc said to do so as needed. Also he suggested apple juice after 1 month of age. I still can't bring myself to give him juice this young though 😳
It's normal for breastfed babies to go that long. Does she act like she is in pain? My daughter was the same way when she was around 7 weeks old but it never got better. She was in tears when trying to go. We had to rectal stimulation every now and then and then her pediatrician put her on miralax everyday to help and it has been a lifesaver!! She is a much happier baby.
