I never wanted to formula feed my son... I had plans for how everything would be after he was born. I had dreams. I had goals... Unfortunately, (because of my breast cancer scare and surgery on my right breast to have 2 lumps and part of a milk duct removed) my right breast wasn't producing an adequate supply... My son wouldn't latch on that breast because of that reason, so my left breast was huge (due to the fact that it was trying to compensate for the lack of supply in my other breast). I was walking around looking like a damn Cyclops smfh... My son would scream and cry because he was constantly hungry and my wife would take him from me and say "awwww, you don't want your mama dried up titties. there's no milk in there, huh?"... And, although I know she was trying to be funny, that "joke" killed me a little bit inside every single time she said it... Then, finally, after numerous times of her telling me that I needed to supplement with formula, I broke down and did... But, then my milk supply slowly withered away....... I had plans.... I never wanted to give my son formula..... I feel like a failure....

First off momma your definitely not a failure. Not every mother can breastfeed their baby. I am sorry 😢 to hear about the breast cancer. I just lost my Mother on May 25, 2016 due to breast cancer. I know how scary it is. So don't feel like a failure because your not.

You are not a failure. I had plans to breastfeed too. I was dead set on it and didn't even want to think about using formula... until I ended up with an unexpected csection and it threw those plans out the window. I had a rough recovery while in the hospital and was unable to breastfeed while in the hospital... so when I got home I ended up having terrible anxiety about trying to get her to latch. We would both have a meltdown every time I tried. I pumped exclusively for two weeks but just wasn't producing the fatty stuff she needed. I ended up just switching to formula. It was the hardest while my milk was drying up. I would spend hours crying thinking about how big of a failure I was. But then I realized that it's not for everyone, and that's okay. There is such a stigma these days about what makes you a good mom. Do you love your baby? Will you do anything and everything to make sure your baby is taken care of? Then you're a good mother. Your choice to breastfeed or bottlefeed, cosleep or not, etc. DOES NOT define who you are as a mother and a woman. Your body did not fail you, it has given you the greatest gift you could ever have. Don't beat yourself up about it, even though it's hard. You will have days where you're still sad that you couldn't.... but it gets easier. Formula is not the worst thing to ever happen as some moms make it out to be. And in a year, this all will pass and you won't even have to think about it. Keep your head up momma, and if you need to talk, message me❤
