Any special tips on how to produce more milk? Aside from mother's milk tea, are there any foods or drinks that may help my production? I need to start being able to pump more and 2 oz each time from pumping isn't cutting it.
My supply was low (1-2oz per boob or session) when my baby was in the NICU. Honestly what helped was putting her to the breast whenever she seemed hungry and drinking a lot of water. Now I'm back at work ☹️ and I pump in the am and in the pm and get anywhere from 4-6oz per breast.
oatmeal, certain nuts, barley. I'm taking two different supplements (goat's rue and hops) and drinking the nursing time tea and I'm finally making enough milk to ebf. I don't get much out when I pump but a friend of mine (who doesn't suffer from breast hypoplasia/IGT like I do) took hops and said it worked amazing (6oz from each boob from pumping)
I just did it in the rocker when my breast felt really full and I pumped it into those plastic ready made formula bottles that they gave me in the hospital, if you google how to store expressed milk they will tell you about refrigerating and freezing and can get a lot of information on it, and decide your preference. If you have the plastic storage containers or bags you can express into whatever clean thing you feel is easiest and pour it into whatever you usually store your breast milk in. I never used the storage bags, and I'm a FTM.. so not sure about that. But yeah, Google hand expressing and storing! You should find some good info there.
Have you tried hand expressing milk? I hand expressed in the morning when I was breastfeeding ( now I formula feed ), and I expressed 2 oz the first time, an hour or two later, I tried again and got two ounces out of each breast. Maybe worth a try.
