If your borderline anemic should doctors give you iron tablets?
@ttcrainbowbaby, thanks Hun. My level has dropped to 106 now. Doctors are saying it's only mild lol but u swear I have never felt soo tired in my life and drained. I hope your feeling much better too x
@ashmorex I'm glad you got Meds hun coz 115 anaemic. anything under 120 is. hope hey help and you get your iron back on track asap.
@suzie80, @ttcrainbowbaby @mummyto1soon2be2 finally been given iron tablets. They now say I'm anaemic. I don't get why they have let me get to this stage when they could of tried to maintain it when they saw my levels dropping
Yeah mine bad gone from 146 to 115 which according to the numbers means im only just within normal range, but that sort of drop in 6 weeks is clearly making me feel rough. So I just started taking spa tone, plus my midwife had already suggested I was anaemic
Borderline.... so your haemoglobin level is in the 120's or under? The gynae at the hospital when I was admitted was really concerned with my level (84). Apparently if it was in the 70's they'd consider a blood transfusion and if it was in the 60's there'd be no discussion. 120-170 is normal and they don't treat for that. Even with my very low levels they've only given me 2x200mg tablets a day. They did do numerous blood tests to ensure the bleeding I was having didn't make the level drop. I kinda thought they'd be more concerned with achieving and maintaining a healthy level as we're pregnant. But in the gynaes own words "we have plenty of time before the baby to get you back on track". Which I don't agree with. I swear anaemia can cause pregnancy complications. I suggest you buy and take a iron supplement hun. They're relatively cheap and easy to get Iver the counter. Better take care of yourself if they won't.
dried fruit like raisins and apricots, salmon, green leafy veg such as spinach and red meat are good x
@suzie80, my levels are dropping. I've gone from 120 to 113. Doctor said I need to drop below 110 to be given iron tablets. Midwife isn't happy she said due to past pregnancies of you becoming anemic it's not good they letting you wait. I feel so tired, short of breath and my heart palpitations have gone mad.
borderline no, because iron rich foods can keep your iron right without the need for tablets x
@ashmorex thanks hun. though tbh even at 84 I didn't really feel ill. I wouldn't even have known if I hadn't started bleeding and went hospital for that. 🙈 I guess I just got used to it.
