my ex (&son;'s father) was very abusive he nearly killed me in 2013. after that I went through depression really bad and did a lot of things I shouldn't of done. I hated the idea of being single but also knew I wanted someone better. I met a guy and I never let him in. It was difficult but after a few weeks I kept seeing things my ex would do this new guy was doing. I went to my best friend anf I just broke down because I was so hurt. So hurt that the man I truly loved and did anything and everything for the man I had a child with hurt me so bad...but I still loved him and couldn't figure out why!! I wanted him back but I also wanted a better life for my son and myself. so i distracted myself. I started college anf tried to focus on my future...few months later my best friend and her boyfriend wanted me to meet someone. so I i went over there and I met this man. he was amazing to myself and my son. I still had problems letting him in and trusting him. heck, even almost 3 years later I have some difficulties with him because of my ex. I think a part of me will always love my ex but at the same time I really don't know why because of how bad he tore mr down. just keep your head up and don't let him get to you!

@belles_mom422, honestly, I was sick of getting hit. My ex would also frequently break up with me for random things that made him mad. So this time when he broke up with me, instead of trying to get him back, I started going on dates with other guys. That's how I met my husband. When my ex came around to try and get me back, I had already met this wonderful man who showed me exactly how I should be treated and I was strong enough to tell me ex no. About 5 months later, when my ex sent me that message, I shared it with my then fiancé and we talked about it and he was able to show me just what my ex was trying to do and we really worked through my feelings.

my ex knows exactly how to manipulate me to feel guilty and go back to him he's cheated so many times but was always convinced I never loved or cared about him even though I stuck through it all. how did you push through to not go back to home and stay with your husband? @emilyd

Oh yes! In fact, I just saw my ex at my college homecoming game last weekend. It damn near broke me. My husband could see how it affected me and he handled it perfectly. A year ago, when my ex found out that I was engaged, he messaged me saying that I hurt him and all this nonsense. I felt super guilty and I almost left my fiancé. My ex was really good at playing on my insecurities. He "loved" me through 2 years of eating disorder treatment and constantly made me believe that no one would ever "love" me like he did. @belles_mom422

I was in an abusive relationship for 5 years. When I finally got out of it, I met my now husband. It took awhile for him to break through everything my ex had done to me. He's the most amazing man and I'm honestly so grateful for how much he loves me and that he had the patience to understand everything I had been through.
