I am 5 months pregnant and last week we found out we will have a baby boy. My happiness was ruined when my father in law told me the baby should have the names of his grandfather. I tried to be nice and said we will chose only one of them as the middle name, but he won't accept that. How should I tell him I actually dislike both of them?

He thinks it would be nice to choose one of them as a middle name since the father gave middle names to all of his grandsons.

If it was me I'd choose my sons first name with my oh then compromise on a middle name like you originally said. If he carries on tell him straight 'one more word on this and you won't even get that compramise'

That is exactly what I was thinking because I am ok with having one as a middle name but don't force me to use both. The names I found with my partner atm were Eric and Elijah so we have to chose one of them. The dad wants the baby to be called Mohamad Ghani. I am christian, my oh also because he converted and i don't feel like this name represents us at all. I don't want him to feel like I am against his religion or something.

its tradition in my husbands culture for baby to take middle name as husbands dads name and last name as his grandfathers name. if hes muslim (guessing to the name) thats usually how it works im suure

I saw in his family all the kids have a christian name and a muslim one since there are mostly mixed couples, but the other ones were "allowed" to decide on the names themselves. I felt too much pressure when he told me both of them must be used. I will create my speech and tell him my opinion since my hormones turned me into a total monster lately and i am feeling very brave like this. thank you all for making me feel better because in the beginning i was worried i might be too mean when i was feeling like middle name or nothing 🍼

I don't know how I found this post and I'm sure you've come up wih a solution already @anairda94

I think the reason he wants you to name both name is because in Islam you have to have the name mohamed before the name Ghani. So personally I'd go for mohamed than the other one if I were to go with one. I personally like the name Elijah but that probably coz I love the character from the originals. What did you decided to do? Personally though I would not let anyone else name my child. I'm pregnant with my first and I'm Muslim and though it is tradition for the paternal grandfather to name the child I don't like it. And after waiting nearly 7 years for a child. My husband will be lucky if he gets a veto let alone an actual say in the naming.

Well it ended up bad. Everything turned into a horrible fight, we ended up moving out from his house. I respect his religion, i was willing to choose one of his names, but he refused and ended up throwing insults and saying my son will be born disabled because i smoke, drink and do drugs (which of course is not true)
