Hate the council so much! They need to do my gas reading and every time they've been I've been too busy or unable to give them access due to having work done in the room the meter is in. Bearing in mind I'm a single mum to a 6 month old and then my cat had 5 kittens a 3 months ago. Long story short they trashed my living room carpet and sofas so had to rip it up and throw the sofas away. All that's sorted and they can now gain access. I cried hysterically at the guy last time because I hadn't emptied the cupboard in time whilst caring for a baby and it was 9am and I'd 2 hours sleep. I've explained everything to them but instead of letting me rearrange I got a threatening letter saying they're bringing the police and forcing entry at 8am. Not like I'm not stressed and tired enough they have to make me life 10x harder over a chuffing gas reading. Seriously bringing the police to single mothers door over a gas reading after they've seen how much I'm struggling? Makes me sick😡 (My gas company have done one themselves so not a complete emergency).

Every single time I have my niece or nephew my sister bring them to me sick!! 🤦 It's going to be a super long night because I have my nephew and he isn't feeling well. His nose is full of huge boogers and dripping with snot at the same time.

if it's the council it's not a reading they are doing its a gas and electric safety check for you and your children. so really they have ever right hun. they aren't doing it to be arseholes, it's there duty of care to you as a Tennant. if your worried about how your house looks I really wouldn't panic, they will have seen 1000% worse.
