BREASTFEEDING EXPERTS
So this week I had a little experience that concerned me! My baby is 6 weeks old and we found out the baby is allergic to cows milk so I am staying away from dairy! But the doctor told me I am not producing enough milk I get 2.5oz or 3 oz between both breast when I pump but here is the thing... The baby is always content... Gaining weight, always wet and plenty of bowel movements... So she told me to *supplement* w formula... According to the doctor babies her age should be getting 4 oz by now... My thing is... Sometimes I feel like breastfeeding its more emotional support then anything else! I have lost count of how many people discourage me from doing it! How is her doctor really sure she is not getting enough?? If she is meeting all her needs???? It blows my mind... Are we really living in sad times? Where breastfeeding has become shameful and doubtful? Sometimes I wish I was where poverty its so high where breast is NEEDED... not optional... To tell myself again and again I am doing the right thing and I am being a good mom... 😓😫😰😞
@cfernandar24, I am so thankful to have awesome medical staff. I had the best help with latching and everything even though it was not necessary and am delivering at the same hospital for this one. Our hospital encourages it from the getco.
dumb doctor.. how horrible of them to pressure you when baby is doing great. if I were you I would find a more bf friendly pediatrician. my 4 month old drinks 2-4 oz at a time.
That's a good amount. A lot of doctors aren't breastfeeding knowledgeable or friendly. Find one that is or just talk to a lactation consultant if you need reassurance.
My baby is 3 months and can't take more than 2 oz of either boob milk or formula if your baby is meeting everything and gaining weight then your baby's good I'd find a new Dr the Dr is most likely trying to breast feed shame you
My son didn't drink 4oz until he was about 3 months. He's always been ahead with weight too. He's tripled his birth weight and he just turned 5 months. Go with your instincts.
I don't know of any Doctors who recommend you fomula feed especially when babies are meeting all goals and needs. I would ask for a second opinion or find a new pediatrician.
