It's a requirement. But you don't have to eat it and you can actually refuse it.

I got 3 meals after birth plus a tray for a guest, the hospital might also let you bring in food for after as they allowed me to do. I just couldnt eat during labor.

they brought me 3 meals a day....just said no when i was in labor and contractions and all that stuff

ur not allowed to eat during labor just incase u have a csection but after they feed u

They do. They just don't feed you during labor.
