So my baby has a high level of jaundice. His doctor told me yesterday to stop breast feeding him because there may be something in my breast milk that causing it to go up. I really want my son to be well, but I am hurt by his doctor's statement.
It could be that your breast milk isn't producing enough of something that would normally increase baby's ability to absorb bilirubin from the intestine. Your pedi really should have explained it more to you :(
I just read up on a little bit of it. Breast milk jaundice is VERY rare, but there is such a thing. It affecs three percent of newborns.. So I highly doubt it's that. I definitely wouldn't stop breastfeeding him
