It's not mandatory but it gives them a heads up to make sure your baby's spine is developing correctly, the heart is forming instead of developing any holes, etc. It may not be required necessarily but it definitely helps in my opinion.
@justtkristin, I totally considered it, only because we had a blood test for gender and all the other blood tests for other issues came back normal. However... I went ahead and had the scan and I'm glad I did. They found an issue with fluid on his heart, and we are now seeing a fetal cardiologist. Apparently during the anatomy scan they check for A LOT MORE! Good luck mama!
I only allowed blood work and ultrasound s, this is my 3rd baby boy and I don't agree with the amniocintisis, ,they offer to do has hi risk s of causing miscarriages
@nygirl3rdbabymiami, an anatomy scan is done with an ultrasound. @mommytoprincessmckenzie if you got an ultrasound mid pregnancy that lasted a while, that was probably it.
Let me clarify--I got anatomy scans with both boys. It's important for knowing that baby is growing normally and whether you need any special care for baby before/during/after birth.
@mommagotbump16, yes I 've done the anatomy scan ..I believe I typed they offered me an amniocintisis because,I am 37yrs old but, healthy and I said no ,I will allow all blood work, ultrasound s,and yes to the anatomy scan..
Thanks for the comments everyone. :) I appreciate everyone's advice and/or opinions. I would love to but they brought it to my attention 2 days before my ultrasound that I would owe 1200 to do it due to my insurance. Which I don't have right now. So I'm gonna have to opt out and wasn't sure if it's a bad thing or an ok thing. Thank you guys again for sharing. :) @kandice_stedman86 @mommagotbump16 @mommytoprincessmckenzie @nygirl3rdbabymiami @purpledpink @teambarnes
@kandice_stedman86, that's what I said. I cried about it for a little bit cause I was so frustrated with the situation. What is the point of having insurance if it don't even work. Waste of money. I pray that everything is ok with him. Thanks for the statement. :)
I had medi-cal with my 1st which is like medicaid but in California and everything was covered I only had to pay $20.00 for my office visits. Now I have PHCS thru my job, and i have 1000.00 in lab bills to pay. Labs that the Ob ordered. Makes no sense.

Ah...now that's just bull. I'm sorry hon. I wonder if there's any way you can call your insurance carrier to contest that?
