they can't fire you due to pregnancy but they can legally put you on unpaid leave due to the inability to work safely "lifting restrictions" and if you haven't been there for over a year they can fore you for taking too much time off!!! I'm a manager at a store and those are the legal things but it's still wrong!!! I always say put your two weeks in though because you never know what could happen! I walked out of my job at Safeway 2.5 years ago and went to a different grocery store which was sold then closed and ended up laid off and having to beg Safeway to take me back!!!

@chaylalove, Thats what I thought too but I don't know the rules here in AZ because it's a "right to work state" so I don't know if that changes things but Im looking into it. A lady at work recently came back after surgery and has a Drs. weight restriction note and they accepted it and she is in apparel until her weight restriction is lifted so Idk why they are treating me so different. If I could afford a lawyer I would make a case for sure..there's gotta be one.

@csectionmommy2, unfortunately the Co manager was the one I begged to move me but she don't care. & they are such a huge company with tons of money and lawyers I doubt I would even be able to make a case.

They could get sued for firing you for that

Oh ok well nvm then you should definitely move on then... Isn't there laws protecting you in your state? They can't refuse a doctors notes with work limitations if it's an equal opportunity employer

@chaylalove, they moved me out of my area (Apparel&Infants;) AFTER they found out I was pregnant and put me in heavy lifting areas where I HAD to use a ladder constantly to get the job done (Im an O/N stocker) & then when I begged them to move me to a lighter lifting area because I just had a miscarriage in December and they all know it they refused and told me they do not give pregnant people special treatment. & I had a Drs. note for weight lifting restriction and my manager told me if I turn it in they can fire me. Mind you all the other pregnant girls since I've been there (over 3 years) were moved to apparel no questions asked as soon as they got pregnant because its lighter lifting and no ladders..but apparently I'm different and don't deserve to be treated the same as they were. @csectionmommy2
