is it normal that my dr hasnt checked if im dilated or anything ??. they just check his heartbeat ans thats it !

I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and my doctor is supposed to at that appointment. I guess every one is different on when they start checking?
Some don't check without being asked. My doc doesn't check me unless I ask her to.
