PLEASE HELP!!!! today my little bundle easton is a week and a day old. my baby has a shallow latch and i cant get him to get a deeper latch. ive met with latation atleast 5 times in the hospital and they told me im doing everything correctly...nipples are so sore, cracked and bleeding. I so badly want to breast feed and have been supplementing formula here and there and also pumping. its brings me to tears to thinking about using formula and also brings me to tears that it hurts so badly. i strictly want to BF and dread it at the moment. it should be something you look forward to as bonding with your baby is crucial. I've used nipple creams, breast milk, and pumping more often. can anyone help ease my mind or have tried nipple shields and do they work?! I'm at a loss and don't want to give up..

gotta toughen it out amiga eventually your nipples won't be so sore. my hito used to suck so hard I'd bleed an boy were my nipples so sore an chapped..

my first thought was nipple shields but I've never breastfed (yet)

Your nipple will get tougher. How do you know his latch isn't deep enough? If you drag your nipple from the tip of his nose to his mouth he will open wide enough to get a good latch. Yes nipple shields do work but you don't want to always use one.

Nipple shields saved me. My son wouldn't latch without one. After a week or so he figured it out and I was able to wean him off of it.

I know it hurts right now, and it's up to you how you want to handle it. But I can tell you from experience that eventually your nipples stop being chapped and they toughen up. Believe me! I was there. It took two weeks before things went somewhat smoothly and didn't hurt so much. Don't give up.

Have you tried holding your finger on the side of your nipple to push it in more before he latches then slip your finger out? That helped me years ago when my little man had issues. He eventually got it.
