@yogabump, I'm sorry then please accept my apology , I just kept hearing different tales about cats and decided to just get more opinions about it I still may adopt one when my baby gets older .

Of course your question is not stupid. No, my comment is directed at the dcb user who I tagged with an @. I found her information extreme and discredible and would hate for someone like you, who is genuinely seeking advice, to be turned away from getting a cat by the information she posted.

@yogabump, who is your comment exactly for? I don't whether to take offense to it or not but as I mention I'm not hands on with cats never took one in no question ever is stupid be mindful of what you say , and how you say it on my post!

@dcb012, I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Smell the milk yes. Baby is warm so they cuddle on the chest and accidentally smother them yes. But adapt a humans warm breath with their cat genes to breathe faster? Sit down.

I've never heard that before, but I'm sure freak accidents can always happen.. if you want a kitten, my furbaby is about to pop within the week! it'd be 8 weeks until they can be separated but hey.. more time to think about it? she's super cute and fluffy! (not too fluffy) lol

I'm a Professional Pet Groomer of 18yrs, I wouldn't recommend s new kitten w, newborn In house,,,any pet dog or cat SHOULD always be monitored when near a newborn, toddler child at all times !

@kaileenicole16, this would be my first time raising one , I have no experience whatsoever when it comes to cats 😔 so I'm just not gonna get one ..

but thanks to everyone else who commented I see everyone has different opinions on it and I'm going with my gut feeling and I just won't get the kitten 😔 I've never raised a kitten before anyway , and I wanted to give it a shot but I'll wait ..

That's what I would think that's why you shouldn't worry about it. Lol I was saying it more towards the girl that said it was true. It's a myth that you can't have kittens or cats around newborns because you can if your smart about it

it's a myth but with all animals and young children you have to be cautious the animals will treat the baby's the way they treat you unless they harm the animal by pulling on fur ect

im not sure about the taking breath away thing but kittens/cats can be very jealous. i had one with my son and i woke up to the cat in the crib with my son staring at him looking like he was gonna claw him....and the cat would pee on all my son's stuff and only my son's stuff so juat be careful if u decide to get one

My doctor told me it's fine just keep the kitten away from the baby. The kitten don't like how the babies eyes move when they are sleeping and there have been cases where kittens and cats have clawed at the babies eyes.

Don't let your kitten in the same room when baby is sleeping. Or when you are. Others talking about the milk are correct. Just need to be cautious with any animal.

it's not a myth my aunt Margie died from this before I was born my mom said she was laying on the floor and she has just had milk and the cat covered her nose and was trying to drink the milk and smothered but this was back in the 80s

That's why if you have cats you don't let them in the room with a sleeping baby. That should be common sense

@bettybagofnerves, @kaileenicole16 @lovingmydaughter @mrs_velez @nicipicky it's actually not a myth. What happens is the kitten/cat enjoys the warm breath of the baby just like they do adults. And so when the baby is asleep they will crawl up onto their chests (just like they do us) and touch noses to the baby to feel the warm air. They can then adapt their breathing to absorb the warm air and because of the feline genes they can breath in and out faster. What happens is the baby's lungs are not developed enough to take bigger breaths absorbing oxygen from surrounding air and all they get is the carbon dioxide that is expelled from the cat. And due to that they can suffocate. Just like an adult can. However adults have stronger lungs and take deeper breaths.... So no it's not a myth it's a safety hazard but can be worked around if you're careful.
