ok so how bad does it hurt when they check to see if you're dilated? everyone's telling me it's really painful and you bleed after.

@ksetz, my first check was very uncomfortable, the only way I can really describe what it felt for me was a very sharp pain, uncomfortable, hurts but tolerable. But every Dr is different on how hands on they are, so don't worry to much, the more you tense up the more likely it will hurt. Also every check I've had after that hasn't been nearly as bad. it's uncomfortable..not everyone bleeds.. I've never bled after getting checked.. today is the first time I've actually felt crampy tho...but it doesn't help i had been having contractions all day before the appt..

Doesn't hurt to bad, just pressure. I breath through them & I've never bled afterwards

I didn't bleed once, n they weren't bad . It depends on you and the person doing it
it was a little uncomfortable but not painful.. I didnt bleed but I was only checked once at 37 weeks until I went into labor.. I didnt bleed but I do think it caused me to start losing my mucus plug
It depends on your dr. I live my dr. He's really gentle, im going on my 3rd kid. Hes delivered all of them so far. I like going to him because he's not rough. Even with my pap smears.
OMG it feels like they r personally trying to open ur cervix! Just try and breathe thru it. Its pretty fast.
@ksetz, don't be its all what you make of it and I personally would rather have uncomfortable pressure then be induced
Not as much as labor lol more just pressure maybe little more than sex..
@ksetz, after reading some of your comments I thought I'd add more from my experience. For my first check i wasn't dialated, but afterward I bled and began loosing my mucus plug and started having braxton more regularly. Second check I was one centimeter, and still was loosing small parts of mucus plug. My check today, still 1cm, no blood untill after I went to the bathroom and had what everyone calls "bloody show".
