Is it normal for a newborn to only nurse for 5 min or so every three to four hours and maybe a suck or two in between?

Absolutely! Your normal milk will come in between 2-5 days after delivery and then they'll eat more

just making sure, he really throws fits when we try to feed...and usually only goes for 5 min. I'm producing a lot of colostrum right now and figured he'd be eating more. he mainly just sleeps and cries haha @bri28

@ftm2babyc, welcome to the Club lol

Just remember, that you and your baby are still "new" to this, it'll take some time to get a good rhythm :) keep doing what you're doing, don't let anybody discourage you and don't give up

Babies feed however long they feel like. You can't control how much your baby nurses. From a bottle, yes, but not from your boobs. I had a c-section and three days in the hospital. Every time a nurse came in, that baby was on my boobs lol. 15 minutes on one side, a little later 20 on the other... That's perfectly fine. Will sum up to 40 eventually lol. It doesn't have to be 40 on each side @ftm2babyc
