Ok moms...is this normal or should I be worried??
Jackson has had a fever on and off since Tuesday. Thursday I took him to the doctor to make sure it wasn't an ear infection. turns out it's hand, foot, and mouth. he only has blisters at the back of his throat. she said he was on the mend. since taking him, he has become super clingy and has less of an appetite which he really can't afford to lose because he doesn't gain weight. Anyway, he also has this odor coming from his mouth. is that normal from the blisters or?? please help....I also feel like labor is near so I just want him better before this little one comes!
My daughter caught hand foot mouth so bad, she wouldn't eat or drink. Our pediatrician told us to get children's benadryl and malox. She said to mix half a tsp of both together and give it to them. The malox helps soothe the sores and makes it easier for them to eat, and the benadryl helps the pain.
You're welcome. It's hard when they won't eat, especially if they don't gain easily to begin with. But fluids are more important than food when they're sick! I hope he feels better soon.
That's what the pediatrician made us do. The coldness of the ice water soothes the sores. If he isn't eating right now don't make him, just make sure he's getting hydrated.
@liveitwithlove, he drinks just fine. He won't eat. why specifically apple juice and ice water?
It isn't hand foot mouth if he only has the sores in his throat. It's herpangina. Mix ice water with a little apple juice and feed him with a syringe periodically to make sure he's getting some kind of fluid. My son had this and was hospitalized.
@kschneider6, if it gets to 105 then it's something to be worried about. I would just keep track.
@6215teenmom, the fever is really low grade... like only 1-2 degrees higher than normal.
@kschneider6, my daughter had hand foot and mouth not too long ago. it's going around bad right now. my daughter got it right after being released from the hospital where she was on isolation and had no contact with other patients. but I would definitely bring up the odor and and how high is his fever?
It worked wonders trust me.
