How do you ladies handle when your child swears??
My 5&1/2 year old has never cussed. But lately he's very curious and he hears others say it on tv, family ect...
One night we were at my moms having a bonfire and my dad threw gasoline on it to get it going (we all know what happens when you do that) when it started my son said "holy shit" I talked to him and he now knows kids don't say those words. Well today I was watching a movie while he was playing and he heard a cuss word he looked at me and said "did he just say asshole?" Ugh! I don't cuss unless I'm really mad. But I'm not one to cuss while just carrying on a conversation. His dad does cuss but when the kids are around he definitely limits it. But what do you do or say to them?

@jadestarlight, me too I cuss so much and I don't know how I'll react I read a preggie post about a cussing mom and it made me feel better

I think I'd ignore it. say yes they did but those are inappropriate words to say. I cuss like a sailor. I think if they were teens I wouldn't really care. but i cuss alot. @rockysmommy

@jadestarlight, I agree I cuss like a sailor too and I know my kid is going to cuss because I just won't be able to censor myself I've tried.

made me think about my son saying "what the ____!" the other day n hes 4 and we dont cuss at all at home, and nobody in our family does .. we are very against saying any bad words...i actually hate when ppl say them. ..but my husband have used this particular word a few times around the time this happened. and when we were at grandparents home visiting and suddenly my son says "wtf" everyone was suddenly quiet and shocked...because he said it very clearly and in English...and nobody has ever cussed in our family (my husband knows how my family is about cussing so he have never cussed in their presence)....my brother laughed so hard, and my husband too...then my mom n dad who are a no no for bad words followed..then we all told him that we dont use that word and he shouldn't either. i think that because he saw them laughing he thought it was funny cuz he did said those words a few times for several days...and it was getting hard to stop him. so i asked my husband not to laugh at it and to be very serious about teaching him not to say that....and after talking to him very serious about it everytine he said it and also telling him he would go on time out if he ever says that again, he finally understood and completely stopped saying that. now the kind of funny n cute thing about this lol is that everytime my daughter would hears my husband say wtf she would stop doing w.e shes was doing and would get very serious while saying "No!! no wtf daddy, ok? its not ok" and gets mad at him lol and shes only 3 yrs old lol so now even my husband FINALLY stopped using it too

@julybaby2016, my family (my parents) aren't big on cussing I've heard my parents more my dad..cuss a few times. My SO wasn't there when my son said holy shit but I told him about it and he did the same thing and laughed about it. I said it's not funny. Too many people think kids cussing is "cute" but I don't think it is. I just don't know how to handle it. Both those times I told my son that kids don't say words like that. @rockysmommy @jadestarlight my biggest concern is he starts kindergarten this year and I don't want him "accidentally" or even on purpose saying any of cuss words. I cuss when I drive & if I'm really mad that's it lol.
