As we come up on Emmalysa's 2 week mark of birth, I wanted to share my birth story. Beware. It is super long.
I got to the hospital at 8:00 am. They started me on pitocin at 9:30 am. Every half hour they would up the dosage by 2. By 3:30 I was at 16. The nurse came in to check me. I was at 3 cm and 75% effaced. They then upped my dosage to a 20. The contractions started getting super intense and hurt like hell. I was sitting on the yoga ball laboring because it helped. The nurse came in saying the baby didn't like me on the ball and had me lay in bed on my right side because her heart rate was dropping. It got down to 89 bpm. She then left cause her rate went back up. About 10 minutes later she came in again saying it wasn't working and her rate was back down again and had me lay on my back. Her rate was good again. She checked my cervix again and was concerned about what she was feeling. At this time she had a doctor come in to check my cervix again. He was really digging too to find out what he was feeling. He finally said it was her hand above her head. He kept feeling around and found she also had her cord in that hand. While he was determining this, my water broke. It wasn't very pleasant and I was in a lot of pain. He kept his fingers in place to slowly let the water out so her hand wouldn't let the cord come through my cervix and cut off her oxygen and blood supply. She wouldn't move the hand. They were getting more worried and decided it was time for me to have an emergency c section. He asked the nurse to come and take his place so they could get the OR ready. Rather quickly he took his fingers out and replaced hers in there. She hopped on my bed between my legs and they rushed me on out of the room. By the way, Jazmin and Matthew (my two older kids) were in the room with us through the whole thing. Daniel couldn't come to the OR because they were putting me under general anesthesia to deliver her. Last I remember was being put to sleep and my legs shaking because I was so scared. Then I wake up and they're handing my baby girl to me.
Even though I had a pretty rough pregnancy and then an even scarier birth, I am beyond blessed to be a mommy to this precious baby girl.
