Hey girls...quick question. I've got my first midwife appointment tomorrow. I'm 8 weeks on Wednesday. do I have to have a blood test? is it necessary? The only thing is, they're my number one phobia after being traumatised with them as a kid. I'm so so worried :(

yes on my 8 week appointment I had my blood took mainly to check my blood group etc unfortunately if I remember right from my pregnancy you need to give a pee sample and blood at every midwife appointment x
good luck 💕 let me know how you get on x
I had bloods done at my first midwife appointment (booking appt), they were very quick and took 3 vials, but I didn't have to pee in a pot. Explain your nerves and hopefully they'll be quick and gentle! Good luck xx
Your first appointment will be to fill out the form about you and partner . midwife will give you a form with 2/3 blood tests on you'll need to have . I didn't have mine until I went for my scan as you have to have more then so I had mine all done together
There's lots of times you'll have blood tests or injections during pregnancy unfortunately. I was sent for booking bloods at my booking appointment, and have had a few tests since then, plus flu jab and whooping cough jab. All the fun of being pregnant lol. I hate needles also (despite having a lot of tattoos!) but I'm used to being a human pin cushion now! x
That's the weird thing, I'm a tattooist by trade and I don't mind needles at all. It's the blood tests! The thought of my veins being pierced just makes me faint. Urgghh. looks like I'm putting numbing cream on just incase! x
I had injections on my first appointment the tests are really important for baby. x
I had them at first appointment I'm o- and I have to have and anti d injection at 28 weeks x
I had blood tests done on first appointment but I think that was down to being in hospital the start of last year and having 0- blood. I'm terrified of needles so getting 8 viles of blood taken and an Anti D injection terrifies the life out of me xx
@annyloveya, I had to, not sure if it's the same for everyone but they do it to test you against diseases and they also wanted a urine sample so I'd go in prepared to give one haha! if you're really nervous about a blood test then ask when you go in so maybe they can quickly put your mind at ease...hope you get on okay honey!xx
I didn't have one on my first appointment, she asked me to book it in at about 9 weeks x
I didn't on my first appointment with midwife only filling out forms etc had blood tests on first scan so far that's it x
