hi girls,

sorry this is a bit of a long one!

I'm wondering if anyone here has gestational diabetes?

I've always had high blood sugars and when I was about 8 weeks gone i had to start monitoring my blood sugars. within a week I was started on metformin twice a day and insulin at night. I had constant stomach cramps and upset stomach , couldn't tolerate the metformin. now I'm on insulin 4 times a day that keeps being adjusted. I'm struggling with it. I've kept off the sweet stuff and my sugars are still high. just in the morning having weetabix sends my levels high even with the insulin. I'm confused what I'm doing wrong. I'm also worried about when baby will be born because I've been advised that I may have to be put on an insulin drip while in labour and my baby may have to go to special care if it's born with low blood sugars. Apparently it will be monitored every few hours.then they tell me that if my levels aren. controlled there is a chance of still birth. I'm panicking to be honest! have to go for an in depth scan of its heart next month at st Marys. I'm terrified. anyone in same position or can offer some words of wisdom I'd greatly appreciate it xx

Ha ha... I still trying to figure this website... With my first pregnancy I felt movements early on and I'm. Now 23 weeks and have only just starting to pick up on baby's patten. I spoke to my midwife as I thought this was late and she said she wouldn't be concerned untill 25 weeks.. If you feel worried at all I would get checked but would say 18 weeks may be a little early.. However please don't quote me on that. So far the diabetes is being controlled but they have mentioned the further I go the more strain the baby will make and things could change... But so far were all good. Good luck hunnie and honestly any concerns go get checked xxx

I've only just managed to figure out to actually get back on my post! kept clicking it and it just kept taking me to people who had commented profile!

@homely.mummy.no2 I check my blood glucose in the morning. an hour after each meal once I've finished eating.

@el2416 wow, I'm glad they checked you and put you on insulin this time round! Hopefully things will go better for you! I'm 18 weeks now and still not felt baby move. should I be worried?

@sammie194 thank you for your comments I will definitely keep in touch with the diabetic midwife! xx

Hello. Sorry to hear you have so much to be thinking about. Out of interest. When are you checking your blood glucose? Eg just after food, an hour free insulin administration?

I'm a general diabetic but it started 2 years ago as gestational diabetes. it can be hard to find the correct amount of insulin you need. I've been diabetic nearly 2 years and still find it hard. try slow release carbs as they take longer to get into the system but it does help. ring diabetic people if concerned though as I struggled with high sugars from 5 weeks pregnant with my first and had him at 33 weeks! was a big baby at 6lb 3oz but the lack of control can be worse than imaginable. you will get there it just takes a while

I had diabetes with my first little boy and it was controlled properly by them not putting me on medication. My little boy was Born at 36+2 (I was induced) and did spend 2 weeks in nicu special care... They continued to mointer his bloods untill the settled and was aloud home... The consultant in nicu told me it was because I wasn't on insulin and should have been... This time however they have mointered me from 9weeks and put me on insulin straight away... Have already informed me I will be induced at 37 weeks (as long as my other issues are controlled) normally they induce you because the futher in your pregnancy and going over increases the risk of still birth. They should be scanning and doing mointering you every couple of weeks. But I would say if you don't feel happy keep speaking to the or go to your mat department. I had reduced movements with my little boy and was in hospital every week for checking... He is now 16 months and perfectly fine and healthy little boy... They told me he was going to be a big baby but was 6.1 born... Not big at all. Hope this helps x
