My son was born at 9.9 lbs and I was never told to supplement. The more you latch baby on the more milk you'll have. You gotta be a human pacifier! It's so hard having a big baby, hang in there you got this!
With breastmilk baby only needs 1 to 1.25 oz per hour. If you're bottle feeding and that needs to be paced, as well as formula, but I dubt you actually need to supplement
I wasn't able to latch on while I was in the hospital because I had some medical issues that had to be dealt with. Also my baby was almost 10 lbs so he needed more than I was making. I was told to pump every 3 hours for 30 min. The more regularly you do it the more you get. We feed breast and formula.
Unless you're exclusively pumping, don't do it until after 6 weeks so your supply can relate. nurse baby first, then pump. You should really only do it once a day, unless you've bottle fed baby. always pump when you've missed a nursing session. This advice comes from information I learned from "expressions! lactation services" group on Facebook, which is ran by certified lactation specialists. I suggest you join! They're miracle workers.
Why do you think you aren't producing enough? how old is baby? Diaper count? Hospitals aren't trained in lactation and not all LCs are good becuase they don't have the schooling, just a week long class
It depends on why you're pumping. At work or missed feed, 5 mnutes after lat drop. Engorgement, only until pressure is relieved. You shouldn't pump before 6 weeks though
