My husband and I are recently married a month tomorrow. 29yrs old (I'll be 30 in 11 days) We've been together for 8 years and a month tomorrow. We live with his mom at the moment. Currently reading Dave Ramsey's book. It's helped a lot. We're planners and want to have a family sooner rather then later but we want to make sure we save enough money. We plan to buy car seat, stroller and crib set new, so that's not really a factor. What is a good amount to save money to have a family? Monthly? Any advice would be great! Thank you!!

@andrew_nikolai2015, yea I would at least want an emergency fund set up. It's nice to figure out some Numbers. I think if I start ahead it be ok. Thank you for the help. :)

@gyngee, I do plan on breastfeeding....I know hospital bills pretty well. They suck.

There really is no set amount unfortunately. Every baby is different and every baby requires special care. While one person pays $20 for a can of milk others can pay up to $50 for a can of milk. You can prepare as much as you want but at the end of the day there is no real ready. I buy my son 2 boxes of diapers that's $37 each I buy 2 extra milk containers at $35 a piece. That doesn't even touch everything else like baby food, snaks, meds. There are just so many unexpected things that show up.

I wouldn't personally worry about planning for twins until it was ultrasound confirmed, but you're the momma! Also, if you plan to breastfeed check with your insurance to see if they cover a pump. Many plans provide them free of charge after the birth. Checking into how much your insurance covers in general is a good idea. Nothing like getting home from the hospital with a fresh baby and $10,000 hospital bill to go with!

@gyngee, Oh great thank you!....we plan to have at least 3. Also twins run in his family so that another type of expense we have to think about. Any idea? Or same thing?

Also ebay and amazon can be your best friend for most things. I wanted a pretty expensive crib comforter set (lol which we still to this day have not used) it was like $400-300 in store and I found it for less then $100 with extras and free shipping! Since you have all this time, I would definitely recommend shopping around and researching items before committing. If you are planning on having more babies later, buy in gender neutral colors and save everything for hand me downs! @bunny25

$500-1500 should be enough to get all the essentials plus some extras, especially if you garage sale or find hand me downs. Family(if they're willing) can always help with the big ticket items like a crib or carseat during the baby shower. If planning helps pass the time then by all means do it, but I wouldn't sweat if you are tight on funds. As long as you have the basics like diapers and formula, newborns are pretty content. Good luck and baby dust!!
