I really hope tonight is a better night at work. Last night I waited on a group of teenagers going to prom. Their bill was $220, and they left me a crumpled up $5.00. I wanted to call their mothers! Haha. Do people think we pay for bills, diapers, and all of our other necessities with verbal tips? "Honey, you were phenomenal! Thank you for the great service!" does not pay the bills. If you're not going to tip your server, at least let me know up front so I don't waste all the extra time making sure the experience was wonderful. I'd rather just do the bare minimum for the cheap people! I'll make sure my daughter knows what is right, and what is wrong. Can't afford to tip? That's fine, go somewhere that doesn't require a server. 😅🙄

Prom season was the absolute worse!

Not to mention servers are required to claim tips and are taxed accordingly. I worked at Cattlemens for years and they expected us to claim 18% of our sales. Obviously, that wasn't the case every night and if we consistently didn't claim 18%, our schedules were affected. There's a lot more that goes into serving that people who have never worked customer service simply do not understand.

@breloya, ❤️❤️❤️. I wish more guests were like you! Haha. I'm going to have a tie made for work that says "Servers are human too!" 😂🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

I notice things like that when our waiter is very busy and usually tip more. Like when we went to ihop on Saturday night and there was just one guy working. They had the manager out helping him. I'm a very chill customer and never make a scene. Servers are human too and the thing that gets me is when people get mad at the server because their steak wasn't cooked to temp, etc. That's the cooks mistake lol. But yeah, definitely don't think you were rude. You were venting, as you have a right to. She came on your post. 💜

@breloya, I soooo agree! There has been a hand full of times where I'm slammed and I think to myself, "God, I gave them horrible service. I hope they don't leave me anything..I don't deserve it!". I so get it! I'm definitely not saying that I'm entitled to 20% every single time, that's for sure. But, it's those that I give excellent service too (like those teenagers) that I DO expect a decent tip from. Thanks honey! I knew I wasn't being crazy rude in speaking my mind (;

The only thing I dislike, is when a waiter/waitress doesn't work for their tip. I tip on service given. I've had waitresses who were rude to my family and I, snappy, brought out very cold food, wrong food and drinks, got mad at us because THEY got our order wrong etc. I know everybody has bad days at times, but at least pretend to be happy ya know? All that being said, the minimum tip I've ever given was $10. And that was towards the above described type of service. Other than that, I think I'm a pretty good tipper. I'm the one who writes corny notes on the receipt along with my tip lol. I don't even tip my delivery guy less than $10. Long story short, I'm sorry you had a bummy day. I know it isn't a requirement to tip, but if a person doesn't want to tip, they can either cook at home themselves or go through a drive thru. 😉

@bishop0301, thanks pretty! I have a friend like that also. I eventually told my husband that we can't eat out with him anymore. It's such a scummy thing to do when your service has been up to par. I understand when the server is crappy - by all means! Don't tip! Haha, but, when they are great? No way! I can't be apart of that! Haha

@jennatess, I've never been a server but I know it's not as easy as bringing people's orders out. I once went out with some friends and they only tipped our server a few cents. I felt disgusting. Came back the next day and gave our server a 20. She's always been nice to me and my SO when we go in. I'm sorry you had a rough day! But just keep your head up :)

@b3autifulm3ss, well, that's where you're wrong. And, I only work two days a week, I have another job that I "went to school for", but, that still doesn't excuse people's poor behavior. I do so much more than bring people "food and drinks". I make sure every thing is ordered correctly, I bring any sides they need, I fold their napkins whenever anyone leaves the table, get refills, make sure their food comes out correctly, clean off table, box any food they need boxed, do the desert presentation, serve the desert and coffee drinks (which I make all myself), and then box any deserts they need boxed, among so many other things. I work fine dining. It's not like Olive Garden (which they work hard as well.). Again, I know only few people don't tip...but, it's those few that we remember. We give our money out at the end of the night. So, whenever a table doesn't tip, I still have to tip my help for that table. That money comes out of MY pocket. My daughters swim lessons, diapers, dance class... When you don't tip, I literally end up paying for you.

@b3autifulm3ss, I'm sorry you feel that way. But, I know I'd personally never not tip my server knowing full well that at the end of the night they have to tip out the food runner, the bartender, and the busser. How do they tip those people out when their table didn't tip them? Out of their own pocket, that's where. Very few people don't tip appropriately, so that's lucky. But, I'm sorry if you feel that way.
