Pits are great dogs! Love them. Huskies, Labs, Shepherds, Retrievers all make good family dogs also if you ask me :)

Boston terriers are great with kids

maybe try a pit mix, I have three dogs and they're all mixes and wonderful around my sisters baby seeing as mines not here yet. maybe look at animal shelters around you

if you want a big breed look for a pit mix or lab mix. ive owned both and never had trouble with them around babies or small kids. if anything they were extra careful and protective when the kids were around

@miranda941, Agreed! And getting them as a little puppy is always great so you can give them the best start from the beginning. They were actually known as the nanny dogs back in the day. They were the ultimate baby sitting dogs because they are very protective of their family :)

I have two pitbulls who are now adults and still both do amazing with small children. When I had my son 4 years ago my mom got an American bulldog who at 9 months old was already 100 lbs and a jumper my female used to knock him down and growl at him to put him in his place if he came near me or the baby. I will always chose a pit over any bread.

My dog is half pit half boxer and the sweetest dog ever. Pits are amazing dogs

Actually, Pits are the best choice for a family home. They are considered "nanny dogs" because of their protective yet non agressive nature. It's all about how you train them. I wouldn't get a smaller breed (Chihuahuas, Pomeranians) they are very unpredictable and actually have a very agressive nature and are more prone to non provoked attacks.

I have raised Pitts for a long time and I kid u not my Pitts are amazing dogs when it comes to my kids who are 9 /6 and one on the way now if someone came in my yard and tried hurting my kids they would regret it for sure but that's how I have my Pitts trained is to protect my babies

These are my babies from Easter :) The one on the left (Tank) is a 2 year old Blue heeler/walkerhound mix and the right (Chief) is a 10 month old bloodhound! We've had them around a family members new baby recently and they both did great!! Tank was amazing, so sweet and gentle. Chief, he's just a baby lol. And a hound at that, so he just wanted to lick and smell the baby constantly! But both very good family dogs. Golden retrievers are also great! I grew up with 4 of them.

my shar pei is fantastic around babies, her first tiny around them she kept getting kicked in the face and she would just sit and let it happen and then lick their feet! a pit or a lab would be best. nothing small, those dogs are more aggressive.

pitbull, all the way, 110%. there is a reason they are Nanny dogs. they are beautiful compassionate creaters, you just have to raise them properly like anything else in this world.

It really doesn't matter the breed. As long as you're a responsible person and pet owner you can get anything you want.

saint bernards, pitts, boxers, those dogs were nanny dogs back then and put in the nursery with the babies.

We had a Pitt when my cousins little boy was born and when he stayed with us she never left his side and watched him all the time. I have a puppy but she stays at my moms because of little space in our house we are renting now. But I have a German shepherd and chiuwawa(sorry on spelling) and they both watch me with being pregnant and are very protective now so I can only imagine when my son gets here how they will be with him. My Pitt since she's 9 months old and wants to play all the time I don't think she will become attached to him till he's born.
