When my son fights to go onto my boob to eat does that mean he's just not hungry? Because he just woke up and is looking around making the face like he's hungry but is fighting me. I just put a paci in though and he took that. So does that mean he's just lookin for something to suck on rather than being hungry? He's only 4 days old so I'm still very new

yes babies naturally want to suckle for comfort. If he enjoys the pacifier then that's ok

if you use the pacifier make sure to hand express or pump if it's been more than 3 hrs since he ate.. that will help keep your supply up.

@wiccanmommy, they told me not to pump until 3 weeks...which I don't understand

They don't want you to pump because they want you to feed on demand. but too many lengthy feedings will affect it. my baby never refuses the boob so I'm just starting to pump, but if he continues to refuse yours you'll want to talk to a lactation consultant. the pacifier can create nipple confusion and make him not want your breast.

The "issue" with using a pacifier is that when baby is so new you're supposed to latch them on all the time when they are fussy or hungry or sleepy all of it in order to get your milk supply up and flowing for baby. By having baby self soothe with a pacifier your boobs aren't being stimulated so they don't know to make milk... I would say during the day baby should be latched at least every 2 hours, 3 max for the first month or so to ensure your milk is strong

You're not supposed to pump until 6 weeks when supply has regulated. how old is baby? It could be a growth spurt, overactive letdown, etc.
