it kinda bothers me when I see people say that more people get sick from a vaccine than from not getting vaccinated..that's not true at all. I am totally a "to each their own" person and I respect other people's opinions/beliefs but i am just so far the other way on that one.

I'm not sure what the name of them are but my first didn't get no more than 3 at a time tell a year old. I don't have either shot record with me to look and see. I'm visiting moms so that stuff got left at the house.

exactly!!!!!! they believe it because there has been a rise in autism cases since whatever year. the way one of my science teachers explained it to me in hs was, our genes are like switches, and you can have the autism gene, it just might not be "on" that's why you don't have it, but something like the shot or something else can turn it "on". So if autism doesn't run in your family or the other parent, then there's nothing to worry about. I know it doesn't run in my family nor my husbands so I'm not worried about it, and autism isn't always noticeable till abt a year+ and even then its hard to tell if a child has it till they're a few years old.

Schools and daycares are still businesses and they can refuse service and don't even have to give you a reason. Sure you can sue them But good luck with that. I just noticed you're a Pisces having a Taurus and my hubby is also a Pisces having a Taurus.

Right! She must have deleted all her comments on this post or something but she said "no one can turn away caring for my child or anyone else's child because of not being vaccinated. They would be sued." Just ignorant comment after another it really started making me mad! I don't understand why she got SO butt hurt over this post, when I certainly didn't post to bash anyone's opinions on the subject, I was simply stating mine. @jana.bear

It was totally fine! Everybody kept telling me it makes you super sore but honestly it's a teeny tiny needle and super quick. As for soreness, I forgot I had gotten the shot until my husband pushed my shoulder in the same spot but it was barely sore. I've felt worse from push ups. And my husband said his wasn't sore at all. And all the Utah daycares require paperwork and so do all the elementary schools. The only way to get away with not being vaccinated is homeschooling and being a stay at home.

I've seen a number of people that choose not to get the flu shot for different reasons and that's totally fine! But as long as my baby is under my card and I'm making decisions for him he will get every vaccine that is recommended by his doctor! And you made a good point, there are even some jobs that will refuse you if you're not vaccinated. This girl tried to tell me on here earlier that it is illegal for schools and day cares to turn away a child that's not vaccinated. That's absolute bullshit. All 3 of the child care places I have looked at have a rule that you must be able to provide vaccination records. One of which was the Goddard school. And the elementary school I go to also has that rule! Ugh haha it's really not a big deal she just pissed me off with her silly comments about how I'm making the world a dumber place by wanting to vax my child. So stupid haha @jana.bear also what was the tdap shot like for you? I'm terrible with needles despite the 10 tattoos I have lol, and I've heard it hurts BAD

The only shot I don't get is the flu shot. Mostly because I always forget and then I get the flu and it's to late. lmao I just got my TDAP though. And we will be fully Vaccinating. My husband works for a Water Reclamation plant , they clean toilet water basically so they're required to be fully vaccinated. A couple people have tried to work there and been turned away for not being and getting vaccinated.

Yeah I think preggie deleted them because I complained haha. I didn't want her negativity crowding up my post. I just looked up and it looks like she blocked me or something cause I don't even see her first comment and it was just there a minute ago. Basically she said that people like me are the reason the world is a dumb place and that I obviously don't know anything about vaccines, said something about how I'm not smart enough to know that the flu shot "is the flu virus and that's why everyone gets the flu after getting it" and things like that. And uh I'm well aware that the flu shot contains a weakened form of the virus but it is not true that everyone gets the flu from it. And I said that back to her. She was just really rude and completely ignorant, like she knows the very bare minimum about vaccines, like the stuff that everyone knows, and was trying to use that to tell me that I'm dumb for getting my child vaccinated. She even said that most children that got the measles last year got it because they were vaccinated. Idk where she was getting her information from but it bothered me a lot that she said that people like me are why the world is becoming a dumber place 😒😒 @kenitra

@kenitra I don't know why that girl got so butt hurt. It's not like I posted "people that don't get their children vaccinated are dumb" or something like that. I didn't know simply stating my personal opinion would make someone so crazy. To say I'm making the world a dumber place was so freaking rude though.

@emkasting, Whoah, things just got crazy in here! This is why my boy can't go to to a school or playgroup or anything where vaccines aren't required! And I nor my niece have ever gotten sick from the flu shot and we get it every year. Or my sister or friends that work in healthcare. Why do people think it's a requirement for all healthcare professionals to have the flu shot and other vaccines to work in a healthcare environment?

Yep we do vaccines. I have never had my OB push for the whooping and flu shot and I never got them with either pregnancy. I haven't had the flu shot in 10 yrs and I'm doing just fine. My 2 yr old is up to date on his shots but we don't do the flu shot. My 2 month old just received 3 shots and a oral yesterday.

@kelseys I can see your perspective on not wanting to get the flu shot. But yeah I don't understand people that think vaccines cause autism. There is NO evidence to support that and it honestly makes people that believe that look outright stupid in my opinion!

I'm all for shots, both my children are up to date on all their shots besides the flu shot which I never got and I won't do for my children. I don't see the point in it since most of the people I know still ended up getting the flu even when they have had it. I haven't had the flu. the one shot I'm most concerned about getting my children now is the chicken pox one because I've had chicken pox and now I get shingles, with that I have to be really careful not to pass it to them.since my baby isn't old enough for it yet and I believe my oldest hasn't had the second dosage yet since he isn't old enough yet, and I can't get the shingles shot till after I have this baby. my family is kind of agisnt vaccines which I think they're stupid to believe that vaccines cause autism, which it doesn't and they try to push that belief on everyone that gets their kids vaccines

@mrsdoyle I'm the same way. Anyone that doesn't get the whooping cough vaccine will not be allowed to visit or hold my baby. I don't want to sound mean but that's my rule. I've heard too many stories of babies getting infections and even dying because a visitor wasn't vaccinated or something. It really scares me.

I get the flu shot every year, i have a really bad immune system so if I do get the flu i usually end up hospitalized. I won't risk it with my daughter. she'll be getting all her shots and family and friends who don't have their shots won't be around her!

@karnamarie, Even with a smaller chance of effectiveness it's worth it to me. I got the swine flu in 2009 and it was horrible. I haven't skipped a shot since and have not gotten the flu since. Being sick sucks when you are older and have to function!

@kenitra Not always true. My pediatricians have never pushed the flu shot. They only are somewhat effective in certain strains. Now we have hundreds of different strains so it basically pointless. I vaccinate but only if necessary

As far as the flu shot goes, both my father and myself get one every year and he ALWAYS gets sick but its just like a cold with some mild nausea and no fever for like one day and then its gone. I haven't gotten sick one time. lol

Hahah @emkasting! My best friend's son got chicken pox before it was time for his vaccination (8 months old). He is now 4 and recently got shingles and the chicken pox virus spread to his brain causing encephalitis. He was in the hospital for 3 weeks and very very sick. Super sad. And he obviously got it from someone's child (or adult) who was not vaccinated.

yeah, like I said I'm going to think about it, I mean until the age of 2 that is probably the best choice, since his immune system will be weaker. but I could never refuse any other vaccines. I was completely vaccinated minus the flu shot , as a kid, and I rarely got sick and have stayed healthy, that's all I want for my little one

I personally haven't gotten sick from the flu shot either. I know someone that has but like @kenitra said it was a LOT less intense than the flu would have been. And another good point she makes is about how if you still get the flu while on it there could be other reasons why, not just the vaccine. But I do see where you're coming from! @ftm2babyc I don't understand though when people refuse important vaccines like the mumps/measles vaccine, and others that are a must have when kids go to school. I just can't imagine putting my baby at risk like that

@ftm2babyc, your OB and pediatrician will highly recommend it. They have to get shots until 2 and then they can do the nasal spray.

I don't get it because I know my body, and I know I have a great immune system. I have a lot of decisions to think about for the baby, and that's going to be one of them, I don't want him sick definitely not, but I have just seen it happen over and over @kenitra but I'm definitely taking what you said into consideration.

@ftm2babyc, @emkasting I have never been sick from the flu shot, but if I did get sick it would be a hell of a lot better than the flu. Also, the vaccines are created every year with the most common and likely strains of the virus. If there was only a 10% chance I would still get it, but it's closer to 50-60%. And a lot of those who get it anyway have suppressed immune systems and other health issues.

and some people get it and never get sick @kenitra like I said I'm not sure where I stand on the flu shot for a baby or a small child. I haven't had much thought about it.

I'm not sure how I stand on the flu shot for babies, but one of my family members gets one every year, and every time she gets sick. I haven't had the flu since I was 8 (knock on wood) I just have a huge fear of throwing up, so I don't get the shot because I'm afraid of getting sick.

@kenitra I wanted to add something like that... That if my child is put in harms way just because someone else doesn't believe vaccinations are necessary for their child then it becomes personal. It's a scary thought! Although I have found quite a few places in my city both daycares and schools will not allow a child to register unless they are vaccinated. @kenitra
