I never thought breastfeeding my baby would be such a beautiful bonding experience 💞 too bad I haven't been producing enough for him 😔
However you have to do it, that is totally fine! There are things you can do try and build supply with foods and herbs but unfortunately these are not perminent fixes and you'll have to keep doing them...you could try fenugreek and blessed thistle, mothers milk tea, milkmaid tea, oatmeal, non-alcoholic beer for the yeast, and more...also while you're at home and can nurse him, do it as often as you can and pump the other side at the same time, that way the stimulation and hormones from the baby help the other breast let the milk down a lot easier! I've heard this is really quite effective from many mommies! And if all else fails, any breastmilk is better than no breastmilk! I know it's hard and hurts to not be able to breastfeed as much as you really want, but just know that your baby is getting the best from you either way by being loved 😍 hope some of those things help!
@hellosweetie, Thank you, I try to breast feed as much as I can, and I honestly would love to just nurse him all day and everyday but I have no choice but to give him bottles because of me going to school :(
It sounds like nipple confusion to me, he is used to and prefers the fast flow of the bottle, and gets frustrated because he has to work harder to get the milk from the breast....this is why lactation consultants tell mamas to wait the full 6 weeks after birth to introduce bottles, that way your supply has a chance to establish itself....if you want to continue breastfeeding without supplements I would take a "breastfeeding vacation" and just nurse him as much as possible for a few days, take breaks if he gets frustrated but keep at it! As long as he's peeing 5 times a day you can keep doing this, even if he gets frustrated because he won't starve, he should get used to the flow of the breast rather than the bottle pretty quickly and then you can establish your milk supply without the pump killing it! Otherwise like I said you could try power pumping but compared to nursing at the breast it will be MUCH harder to build and keep your supply up with pumping alone....
@hellosweetie, The baby latches on very well, but I noticed he gets really frustrated after a few minutes because he doesn't get much milk
Couldn't be sure if you were looking for information too, thought I'd kill two birds with one stone while I was at it lol @haileybuttons
If you can't feed the baby at the breast you can try power pumping for 20 mins, take a 10 min break, then pump for 10 mins again...this could help bring your supply up by mimicking the frequent feeding patterns of a cluster feeding baby, but honestly the pump could get 1oz but the baby could get 5oz, there really is THAT big of a difference between suckling power!
Awesome information @hellosweetie! I'm aware of what the signs are, I was wondering what signs specifically @jenny_20 was experiencing! But girl don't give up! Pumping isn't an accurate representation of how much milk you're producing!
@jenny_20, can you latch the baby to the breast? Pumping does NOT get as much as the baby does, they are far better at empying the breasts! And that's what you need to boost your supply, it is supply on demand so the more the baby empties the breast, the more you will produce! That also means every time you give the baby a meal that DOESN'T come from your breasts, that is telling your body not to produce more, so if baby is peeing enough throughout the day then it is best to just keep latching the baby to the breast and not offer any supplementation.
@hellosweetie, I mostly pump because I'm still going to school so that's how I know I'm low on milk
@haileybuttons, I been pumping and only been able to get 1oz. Per feeding and my baby always asks for more and I have to give him another 1oz of formula
@haileybuttons, true signs of low supply are the baby isn't peeing at least 5 or 6 times a day (after the first week), and baby is not gaining any weight at regular check ups. Any other sign is unreliable and means something else like baby is fussy and going through a growth spurt, trying to increase supply naturally, scared, upset tummy, or whatever reason....breastfed babies nurse for SO MANY other reasons other than just hunger, so the key to success is not to watch the clock, let baby latch and nurse whenever they ask for it, and unlatch when they are ready. Frequent or constant nursing does NOT mean low supply, if they are peeing 5 to 6 times every 24 hours and have been gaining weight (even slowly) then they are getting PLENTY 😉
@hopingforblue2k16, I'm only 2 weeks and feel like giving up already
Just wondering, how do you know you're not producing enough? Like what are the signs?
that's how I was with my daughter I loved breastfeeding her but ended up stopping at 5 days old😧
Hard boiled eggs, tons of water, pb&j sandwiches.. You can google how to produce more breast milk..
Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
@hellosweetie, Thank you so much !
