I'm having major trouble with the situation I'm in and the decision I need to make. Just had my 36 week ultrasound yesterday and they said baby is 7lbs 14oz, pretty much 8lbs. My OB today said it's my decision if I want to schedule an elective c-section or try labor/vaginal delivery. She said babies this size are at a larger risk of getting their shoulders stuck on the mom's pubic bone on their way out which can cause nerve damage (both temporary and permanent). I was really hoping to avoid a c-section if possible because of the recovery time and the fact I've never had surgery before. The good news is it wouldn't be scheduled until 39 weeks anyway, so I have time. My only fear is I'll go into labor before then and have to make a decision on the fly.
Has anyone here elected to have a c-section because of the size of baby?
Everyone is different. Take time to really think about it. It's YOUR decision! My dads sister had all her kids vaginally and none of them was under 10lbs when they were born. @amanda_marcozzi
I got induced at 39 weeks because of gestational diabetes and I had my son vaginally and he was 9lbs 5 oz.
@mommy12_16, thanks... at this point, baby could be upwards of 9-10lbs by 40 weeks... I'm nervous.
it's a hard decision to make when a doctor puts that in your hands. I would definitely ask them to make that decision for you. whatever is the safest for you and the baby is the way your should go. Ive only had a vaginal birth. I'm pregnant with twins, and i already have it set it, that I mostlikely will have to have a c-section. I've been told by lots of woman, that it doesn't take long to recover. just walk as much as you can afterwards.
