How many weeks were you the first time your doctor checked to see If you've started dilating?

I'm 37 weeks and went to the doctor today. He gave me the option to get checked today or next week since I haven't had any true contractions yet and I opted for next week since I've heard it's not super comfortable! So I'll get checked the first time at 38 weeks
