@carlyanaya, not as popular since Mirena introduced but they're still available. They're much better than the old copper IUDs that got all the bad press years and years ago. It looks like a little flexible plastic ring thing. Anyway, speak to your dr. I highly recommend it if you can't do the hormones, like me.
@reg265, thanks for that! I hadn't heard many experiences, ugh it's so hard! I haven't heard of non hormonal IUD. Might have to do some research into that
@carlyanaya Don't want to sound really negative but I've had 2 unplanned pregnancies using a diaphragm with spermicide. I can't use hormonal birth control, it invariably triggers a depressive episode for me. I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend a diaphragm to anybody. One failure might be bad luck, but 2 is indicative of something else. The second time I was very upset and discussed with OB/GYN. He said to me that in his near 40 years of experience that falling pregnant while using a barrier method (like a diaphragm) was "just a matter of time". Since then I've used a non-hormonal IUD (like a Mirena but no hormones). These have worked really well. I've had three which have all been removed before having another successful pregnancy. My third one I had in for nearly 6 years then 2 more babies. Some discomfort on insertion but if you have a good dr it's much better. Bit of cramping and spotting first few days then it settles in. Still had periods etc because there are no hormones interfering with your cycle. I'll be getting another until husband gets booked in for his vasectomy as, after this one, I'm all done.
Doc said I need to start the clexain next trimester. For now I'm taking a cartia a day :( so worrying hey..... Xx
i dnt like the fort of takn the pil any way. seems un natural. . and i have heard it ruins sum womens fertility. . but it saves alota unwantd births i guess to try b positive. ive neva tryd the nuva ring fing b4
I did actually use the nuva ring once And it was amazing!!! So if any I'd probably suggest that! :)
Me too @lauraf89!!! I have a blood clotting disorder too so I was limited to pretty much just condoms! 😩
im not even aloud to take contraception in pil form , il get blood clots frm them and was told not to take them. ive known women to go realy angry and sad on them
Yeah, it changes the lining of your uterus, and makes the mucous thinner which means the egg can't attach itself. @carlyanaya
@steph194, I know.... 😞it's so hard!! I hate pills and i just don't think I'm gonna go there again. The mirena is the triangle thing they put up isn't it? My cousin had a miscarriage at 8 months and blames it on the mirena as she had been using it for a few years, it stops the egg attaching to the womb? Is that right? Every doctor seems to poo hoo the diaphragm, but my friend uses it and says its awesome. It's a little shield you put up there basically like a condom for women that you're meant to put in each time before sex but she said she used to wear it all the time and just take it out in the shower to wash it then put it back in so she never had to worry. If it means avoiding hormones and sideeffects I'm gonna give it a go! Apparently it's not 100% safe but I don't care. This mini pill isn't either coz I miss so many of them and I've had more anxiety since taking it
Mirena scares me but I can't do anything with high hormonal based things, it literally destroys my body and chemical balances. I've never heard of the diaphragm? @carlyanaya
@anthea22, if you don't mind me asking how many times did you get a shot? I just read up about it causing fertility problems, and I'm really concerned 😳
@chelc, the depo caused me to not ovulate which resulted in me needing ivf to now conceive :( I won't recommend it to anyone!!!
I'm on the depo. My experience on it has been pretty awful, I know it works great for some people though! For me though, my period went from 6 days to now 2 weeks, and also to being heavy. My skin has gone from all nice and clear to braking out, and I have suspected postnatal depression, which I'm getting a proper assessment for on Monday, which I've been told was probably caused by the hormones of the depo, because before I was completely fine. So after this one I'm never getting birth control ever again, other than condoms.
You're not on any now are you? I started the mini pill a while ago but I reckon I'll stop coz I'm horrible at remembering to take it at the same time plus I don't want to gain any more weight. I think I'll look into using the diaphragm
condoms waiting for hubby to get the snip
