How do I know if my son is actually eating when breastfeeding or if he's just sucking without getting milk??

Call hospital. Usually you can do a weigh and feed.

I agree with above, whenever baby wants to latch just let him, the more stimulation you get the faster your milk will come in 😊 if he seems like he's falling asleep, just tickle his ear or foot gently to getting him to "actively" suck. It's okay though if he sleeps, he may just be tired! Let him choose when to unlatch, even if he's just comfort suckling it still stimulates and helps with supply 😊

The frst 2 months are back to back growth spurts, so it is normal for baby to want to be latched at all times.

He needs one wet diaper a day until day 6. Your breasts never truly empty. After day 6 the minimum is 6 wet diapers. Really wet and poop count for 2.

I believe you can tell if he's getting milk if he has 6-8 dirty or wet diapers throughout the day.

I'm not sure, I've only been breastfeeding for two days now and it's still colostrum@kimberlyyyy

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I will say even if baby isn't actively getting milk out its still good to let him comfort nurse.
