@cthomas, it's amazing how many of us moms don't know about this! I didn't know until earlier today

I put it in my birth plan and will just reiterate to the doctors and nurses when I go into labor! Babies are only born with 2/3 of their blood to make it easier for them to slip through the birth canal. The last 1/3 is carried in the placenta and will pump into baby once they are born. The clamping Is delayed to allow the baby to receive that last 1/3 of blood which has a bunch of nutrients and oxygen, very healthy for baby :)

@aidensmommy, I have no idea..I've heard some make a birth plan and have someone when giving birth stating everything u want & don't want done...I think I'm going to just ask my doctor at my next appointment if I should tell him when I give birth or if I should have a birth plan

I did it with my daughter. When my daughter came out the doctor actually stated "ok delay cord clamping" then laid my daughter on my chest. After about a minute or two he clamped the cord and my husband cut it. I never told my doctor I wanted to have it delayed or not it just kinda got delayed because I wanted her on my chest ASAP.

Can someone inform me on this? What makes it better to delay the clamping? Or ASAP?

We delayed with our first one I am glad we did it only takes like a min or two then they clamp it
