It really depends on your pain tolerance. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but child birth is no joke, I did have a moment where I broke down and told my husband I wanted an epidural but he knows how much I wanted to go as natural as possible so he helped me through it. If your hospital or birthing center offers a tub I highly recommend it. I spent most of my labor in there
Knowing the effects it had on the baby helped me. I wanted my baby to see me and not be all loopy and incoherent the moment she was born. I remember my nephew not being able to latch and being really flimsy because the epidural affected him the same as my sister. The difference in how he was and how my daughter was at birth was crazy. My daughter able to latch and wasn't all droopy and she was very responsive to the voices she'd been hearing and to my touch. That was everything to me! I'm glad I made the decision way ahead of time not to get one and was able to stick to that.
It's all up today you. I have epidural with 3 of my kids and never had issues with them or it affecting my babies after delivery . One delivery I held out til 8cm and my last was 5cm because I wanted to somewhat enjoy the process.
I got one last second with my 1st. I didn't want it but with all of thd nurses bothering me I couldn't concentrate. Months of back pain afterwards tells me it wasn't worth it. This time I'm having a homebirth so people will leave me the hell alone to do my thing.

Depends how well you can take the pain. I immediately got my epidural lol. I couldn't do it.

Was it scary getting the epidural?
