QUESTION: How many moms purchased their breast pump even if their insurance company provided one for free??? Although my insurance is really great for the most part, I've been hearing some horror stories about the pumps my insurance company offers and I know each person is different and each persons body works differently so maybe the horror stories had more behind them than them just being crappy, but there were a lot of bad reviews on both Amazon and Babies r us's website for these pumps so I'm a little skeptical even if it is free.

I'm getting one through insurance, my mom bought me one, and I'm getting one through WIC. I figure if one has a problem or I can keep one for work and one for travel with the third for at home use.. that way there is less packing.. but that was a suggestion from people I work with.

@wiccanmommy, wow! That's really convenient and also a great idea!! I'm not sure the WIC program in my state offers pumps, but it's definitely worth looking into. I put one on my registry that's really affordable but had a lot of great reviews so I'll probably still purchase one if push comes to shove, try out my insurance one first and if that one doesn't work for me use try the one I purchased.

@alexis_k, yeah I figure I'd try the insurance one first and if it gives me problems I'll purchase one or rent one through babies r us if my insurance allows it. Thanks for the input!

having a 2nd pump around is always a good idea.
I have a madela double electric a was given by a mom, and their motors are only built to last about a year. we'll she used it for a year and I didn't know they only lasted that long. so now when I usually pump 15oz every morning and feel comfortable all day, I'm only getting 5oz and feel pretty full all day cause my pump is going out. so now I'm trying to go through my insurance for a pump but they're taking their sweet time. and I don't want WIC so I can't get one from them.
