HELP... HELP.... HELP!!!!! FTM here And mommies I need a little advise... I don't EBF my son but I do pump for him daily, multiple times a day and when I don't pump enough I supplement with formula. I always pump a really good amount and I do it maybe every 3 to 4 hours but my Question is how can I stop my boobs from being so engorged they swell up so quickly after I pump and they start leaking and hurting really bad, I'm scared that if I don't fix it I will have to stop pumping and my son won't get ANY breast milk!!!!

your son is only a week old from what i see on your page. this is normal until your milk regulates. it can take up to 6 weeks or so. until then your breast will be super engorged.

it can take up to three months for it to become steady.

@babykarter, I was the same way the first week. You can look back at my posts and tell I was miserable. Mine were lumpy and engorged, I was so in pain. The lanolin breast therapy cold/hot pack really helped me a lot and soothed my breasts. Also. while pumping I would massage them and they would feel so much better. On Monday it'll be my 2nd week and for the last 4 days I haven't had any issue with engorgement or lumps, my breasts are soft, they fill up and get heavy when I need to pump or something but after that their soft now. that first week is surely a tester it'll get you wanting to give up but don't!!! it does get better! :)

Thanks so much, I will definitely start using the cold and hot packs and using my hands to compress and massage! I appreciate the advise bc it does get very miserable at times! @carolinamom91
