so I had my baby 5 days ago and I'm breastfeeding. well we've been having really rough nights since we've been home. then today I discovered it helps a lot when I hand express some milk before I have her latch. I was surprised about how long it took so now I understand why she gets so frustrated. but I haven't really had much of an appetite since I've had her. I've just been snacking all day on fiber one bars, protein bars, nuts, and fruit. my mom said I'm not eating enough since I haven't eaten a meal since we left the hospital. but nothing just sounds good and I have a hard time forcing myself to eat. I'm scare my milk will dry up or something. is there anything I can do? because she is constantly on my boob since she's not getting enough milk in one setting
@meagansimone, that's what I thought. I knew it was a comfort thing and her tummy is small. my mom got me scared about my supply which I thought would come in for like week. but thank you!- I won't try to increase I'll just keep doing what I an and slowly try to eat meals
Hee tummy is tnpiny so she eats more often to stay filled up. She's also young and it is a huge comfort. my 5 month old still comfort nurses your supply is likely fine, just stay hydrated. cluster feeding is normal for the first 2 ish months, your supply has not regulated yet, so trying to increase supply when there isn't an issue will cause more problems.
Cluster feeding is normal for newborns until you guys get on a schedule. Just make sure that you're drinking a lot of water and try some oatmeal cookies. The oatmeal will help keep milk production up. But just because your babes is constantly feeding doesn't mean that they're not getting enough. Little ones also nurse for comfort.
