So Melody's doctor at her 6 month appointment told us to go ahead and start feeding her solids twice…
So Melody's doctor at her 6 month appointment told us to go ahead and start feeding her solids twice a day, and we worked it up to that....but I feel like my instincts are telling me she's not ready for that, she still doesn't make the connection that hunger can be satisfied with food, and I know that really that won't happen until she's about a year old, and I'm not worried about that...but I think any more than once a day, she pees less and doesn't get enough booby time, even though I follow the rule of waiting an hour after nursing to feed her solids, then booby again afterwards....anyways, would it be so bad if I followed my gut and still only fed her once a day for a while? I want her to continue to learn about food and gain weight, but I feel like she needs more booby than anything still. Thoughts?

Babies can thrive off of nothing but breast milk for a whole year! Go with your gut. She has the rest of her life to eat food😊

my 2 year old didn't really like food till 1.. she had some once a day, and nursed the rest for nutrition.. I was told food before one is just for fun, not necessarily nutrition.. hope that helps @hellosweetie

Food before one is just for fun! Doctors don't know everything. Do what you feel is best. Your gut is rarely wrong.

I did start solids at 6 months old but I only did once a day at dinner then as she got older I do two times a day she's almost 10 months

I feed my daughter random tastes of solids around dinner usually, her doctor and WIC both told us to wait until 6 months to let her taste (I broke the rule and started earlier but she's still eating the same amount ). solids are mostly just for funsies at this age. I plan to push more solids when I'm going to start the weaning process, but I'm going to breastfeed longer than a year so I'm not rushing.

My daughter is 7 mo and I only do solids once a day because I can tell she's really not into it at all. And I can't breastfeed her before solids because she will fill up on her milkies so I do a tablespoon of whatever solid she is on and then give her milkies if she still wants it

Thanks for the reassurance everyone! I know the research on breastfeeding and solids before one and the doctor's opinion and all that jazz, but it's nice to hear from other mama's that my instincts are correct and to listen to my gut lol I feel a lot better! Now the only issue is....what on EARTH do I do with the MILLIONS of baby food jars that WIC keeps giving me??? SO MANY LADIES. OMG. @mommy_faith @brwneydgirly25 @unbecomingme @mrs.cravens @kattastrophe @santistevanmommie

My doctor wanted me to start solids at 4 months! I am going to do 1/day at 6 months but only fruits/veggies no baby oatmeal.

Good idea @kattastrophe! And @sev1226, same with my pediatrician, he told us start at 4 months and we let her try a few things here and there and it seemed to amuse her but I didn't think she was ready so I didn't give it to her that often. I have given her organic oatmeal mixed with breastmilk since around 6 months, and she loves veggies, fruits and beef...hates ham lol haven't tried turkey or chicken yet lol I wish I could go ahead and give her some dairy! I KNOW she'll love yogurt and cheese if she's anything like me 😂 cheese is life! lol

Hahaha yea they say no dairy until one year, also no peanut butter, honey or other high risk allergens 😜 I'm sure it's fine though! I think they say no dairy because some kids can be sensative to it and become lactose intolerant if introduced at a young age 😛 @kattastrophe
