it's no different then washing your new clothes you buy from the store before you wear them!

I washed everything. Baby skin is so sensitive I wanted everything to be washed and clean for him.

I bought a lot of the clothes from once upon a child and I'm washing all the clothes with Dreft.

I done it and got fussed at by my dad. He's like why are you washing new clothes! lol. I may not with this one bc when I had to match it back up it was a good thing I took pictures prior lol.

it's important to wash them first because you always want to get the excess dye off and you don't know if the manufacturer used a chemical finish to enhance color or texture. plus depending what country it is made in they all have different rules for which chemicals are allowed to be used in the process of making the clothes. (i read this in the Washington post)
