are your breasts engorged? maybe try expressing a little first. I've heard if they're too swollen it causes your nipple to flatten out. baby can't latch very good.

my son was like that the first few weeks, he would act nutso and manic, and it would take like 30+ tries to get him to latch. Also you should get a lactation consultant.

Are you trying when baby is super calm and not very hungry? it might be easier then.
