does anyone else find that their babies are not as satisfied with breast milk? I'm pumping plus supplementing because I don't produce enough for my baby but she seems more full and happier with just formula ): so discouraging. any tips?
@brooke100,
There was a mom i heard about she couldn't produce enough so her baby wasnt really gaining and was always hungry/crying so what she did was nurse everytime baby was hungry to still get the bond but after baby was done at breasts she would give formula.
that's a option too if you dont want to quit but want formula as well:)
I'm asking because when I brought my baby home from the hospital I only pumped 4 oz. and I was always so upset that I wasn't producing enough. I would cry. I also supplemented with formula. But little did I know. My baby was drinking the right amount of breast milk. Maybe even less. Their stomach are so small. I forgot about that and I just made myself feel down that I didn't produce ounces and ounces of breast milk. Luckily I didn't give up. My boyfriend and I took a trip to La for 3 days and I told myself I am not going to use formula. If the baby wants to nurse 20 x in a day so be it. But no formula. I was so scared! 3 days later we came back with a full breastfeeding baby! There were days when my milk supplied went up and their were days when it was the same. I think we convince ourselves that we are not making enough. When our body's know how much to make for our baby. Take 1 or two days to just exclusively breastfeed. Every time your baby gets hungry latch her back on. It'll give your body the q to produce more. Good luck! And I hope this helped!
@brooke100, Madela electric breast pump us amazing. I have mine from my 1st born still. My insurance covered it. Total life saver, I had mastitis w both my older kids and when I went back to work w my 1st born- could still give her breastmilk.
Breast milk goes through them faster then formula so they have to eat more. If your baby wants to eat all the time, feed her. The more she eats, the more your body produces. I'm on three months only breastfeeding and it is so worth it. Just hang in there momma. You got this! 😄😄
@brooke100, What i meant is, formula is more filling because of the water that u mix it with. If ur getting tired of always breastfeeding, try pumping so hubby, grandmother etc can help. There are teas and other things to help with ur milk supply if that's the problem. Try pumping so ur breasts can get used 2 producing more. U can monitor what she's actually taking in by feeding it to her-measuring from the bottle.
Just let her breastfeed more. Don't get discouraged. She's getting much more nutrients from u than her formula could provide. It's kind of a filler w the water.
