Okay I have a question, they had me on a bunch of medication at the hospital, I still really want to breast feed but don't want pain medication or anything else in my breast milk. How much do I have to pump to get it out of my milk? I know I have to wait about three days to get it out of my system but it does stay in your breast milk, right? If any of you ladies can give me more information about this I would really appreciate it!

you know they did tell me both. at first I did nurse him and the nurse just gave me a norco before that and told me to feed him but then I went to recovery and they told me I couldn't nurse with him while taking any opiates. I thought it was okay too but I really didn't want to chance it and it be in his system. I was already taking a pain killer every once in awhile during my pregnancy and a social worker found out about it and came and talked to me. I am kinda nervous about having it in his system. I can't believe they would even think it was a big deal, not like I was taking them everyday and if I did I took a half, MAYBE a whole one every once in awhile. I have a feeling they are going to try to look more into it somehow. at least I was honest with them! I will ask my doctor about it. thank you all. @kmally @mommaembe @swtlilangl

Did they say if the medication would affect baby? There's a lot of medications that are safe and don't affect baby/don't enter your milk.

It will leave your milk as it leaves your bloodstream. So you will have to pump to keep supply up, but pumping won't "remove" it from your milk if that makes sense.

It depends on the medication...they had me on Vicodin but it's safe when breastfeeding.
