I'm wondering how to start asking my dad for my social security money. My mom passed away when I was 8 from ovarian cancer. So ever since then, every month my younger brother and I each receive a check from the state for 1,020 dollars. Combined that's over an extra 2,000 dollars loses a month on top of my dad paycheck not to mention I have a medical card so my health care is free. I feel like he's not using the money for things for me. Would it be unfair of me to ask him to deposit at least 500 dollars per month of the check into my savings account?
Definitely worth asking if he's be open to it if he's not providing food, shelter, clothing, transportation, phones, entertainment, etc. for you already.
it doesn't stop until you're out of high school @rachelhoffmans
@rachelhoffmans, Contact the social security office. When you turn. 18 that money is supposed to come to you. I'd he's not spending that money at home then they can take it and give it to you. I had to do that with my mom and I got mine. on the other hand of he is you'll have to wait until the state transfers it over at 18
I understand trust me. I felt the same way. but sometimes you just dont get to be in control of what happens when it comes to legal matters and money. unfortunately. It definitely doesnt hurt to ask but I just wanted to let you know to be prepared if it doesnt go well. its not worth the fight.
He gives me money when I ask that's not so much the problem. But instead of every time I need ten bucks I feel like it'd be easier to just set aside an amount to transfer and then I'll have to do what I can with that amount, ya know? I have had a job too since I was 16 but I'm about 36 weeks pregnant so I'm not working anymore. Self sufficiency is great but when my dad makes 5 grand a month already I don't think he needs a whole extra 2,000. They do live in a nice house and I know that can't be cheap. But I don't live there with them so it's just not fair that my money is being used for THEIR things. It sounds selfish but I'm getting ready to be a mom and I need money too. Especially because I'm so young. @mariahje
same thing happened to me growing up. i fought with my mom for 4 years trying to get even 20 dollars out of her for anything. never happened.. i got a job at 15 & never stopped working since then and being self sufficient feels better than having her give me the money. just saying, it might not go well to ask. and if it doesnt dont worry. youll be alright.
well dont stress yourself too much. just talk to him and find out. if hes not struggling for money then i dont think he would have a problem with giving you a bigger chunk of your money. :)
He's not caring for me, I don't live with him. @junesmommy15
@msvanessa27, it's called "survivors benefits" & I think it stops coming when I turn 18 since its there to replace my moms income. But my dad is also remarried and they are not struggling money wise at all. @pixiestix I don't want to do anything legal to him. He really is a great guy he just doesn't understand fully what I'm going through. He does give me money frequently but not as much as he should especially with the amount on that check. Idk I'm just really starting to stress about money.
then you should definitely ask if he will do that for you. its legally your money, but unfortunately until you're 18 if he wont, i dont know if theres anything you can legally do to get it straight to you. sorry if that makes no sense, im still half asleep. lol
When do u make 18?that check will be put in ur name when u reach18 ...its supposed to i was receiving mine at 18 in my name
I'm 17 and yes it's supposed to go to me. It's for necessities for me. Since I have no health bills I wanted to start putting it in savings so I'm able to afford things like formula and toys for my baby.. @msvanessa27 @pixiestix
no, if its supposed to go to you then its not unfair to ask at all.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Asking for donations for a wedding?
Someone on my Facebook page has started a Go Fund Me, so that they can raise money for their wedding.
I am super mad right now..... I talked to my landlord and we agreed to her cashing the rent check on the 31 of this month because my money will be in that day and she cashed early. She never cashed it early before so now I only have $60.00 dollars for groceries this week😡
Ladies I need advice. My partner's sister got deported a few years back for something she did and she left her daughter here with my partner's mum who's been raising her. Last month she gave birth and hid it from the family and now she is asking for money saying the dad has walked out on her. My partner's mum has asked everyone to band together and give money to help raise him. I'm in 2 minds and I just want some advice. It's not the child's fault and I feel so sorry for him but at the same time...
Starting TWW. Anyone else?
I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks this passed Nov. This is my second month ttc. (Last month we only tried for like two weeks though). My last and only pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month of ttc so I hope it's quick this time again.
That money is 100% yours. It's considered fraud if it doesn't go to you. Same thing happened with my mom. They asked me if I wanted to press charges and have her sent to jail. I was like no!?
