Okay so I am only a day over my due date and I went into the hospital today to get checked and see if I've dilated anymore since Friday (I was at 3 cm) I am STILL at 3 cm. I was hooked up to the baby monitor for a good 2 hours and baby is doing great, heartbeat is perfect. Well the Doctor came in and pretty much said "okay I'ma break your water so labor can start and you can have the baby, and possibly give you pitocin to speed it up"... I refused. If everything is fine and he's not stressed out and his heartbeat is perfect then I don't see the need to force him out. The Doctor turned into a complete asshole saying that he thinks I should have the baby now, when I asked is there a reason why, he couldn't give me one... Do ya'll think I am wrong?! I mean due dates aren't accurate, maybe he's just not ready to come out yet, and I feel like forcing labor would cause my baby stress that's not needed... As much pain as I'm in, as much as I want my baby boy here, and as uncomfortable as it is being this pregnant, I just feel like he will come when he's ready... Right? The doctor really just made me feel like shit because I wouldn't let him break my water.
Yes I did too for a bit but when it came to my baby it was a whole different story. I ended up switching to a natural midwife who was amazing. But the only risk your baby carries is passing his first BM but midwives actually allow you to carry up to 42 weeks especially because due dates aren't exactly accurate!
@quea, exactly. He had no reason to be upset with me, I'm not a child, I can make decisions for myself and baby just fine. If their was a medical reason then by all means, I wouldn't do anything that would put my baby at risk, but there isn't and so I don't see the need to rush him. Good for you thou! It took me a long time before I got the nerve to stand up to Dr's. I always felt like I needed to follow everything they said.
That's how it was for me. Drs don't like to be told no, they like to make you think that they know what's best for you and your baby. I told my Dr I wouldn't be taking the glucose test and she flipped her shit telling me how my baby would die and everything. I said you need to reevaluate your job but in the mean time you won't be delivering this baby and walked right out the RM and never came back!
Oh I understand @ninjamami makes sense with a miscalculated due date I wouldn't want him to break my water either. Best of luck :)
@ce095, and a baby swallowing a BM is still a risk even if your not over due.
@ce095, I've been contracting naturally and everything seems to be going okay, I have enough fluid around the baby, hes not too big, and if I don't go into labor by the end of the week then I agreed to let them break my water. But the only thing I'm questioning is if my due date was even correct, in the beginning it was February 29th, but for the last couple months all the ultrasounds put my EDD at March 9th...
Thanks ya'll @xoamac @sarahdrew @karnamarie @princess_intheoven16 he really just completely changed his attitude towards me like I'm making the wrong choice but yet couldn't tell me a reason why I should go into labor right now.
You have every right to make that choice. However I think doctors look at it that at a certain point it is worse for the baby to be inside. Once you hit your 39th week there is no need for the baby to be inside. Over time it becomes worse. My husband's cousin had her baby at 41 weeks, the doctors waited too long. The baby had a BM and swollowed it during birth and passed of infection at 1 week old. Just saying if the baby is fully developed and ok. Why risk it?
it's your baby it's your body and you know it better than anyone... not to mention baby's don't have a calendar in there
No it's your decision. Unless you or the baby is in distress then there is nothing wrong with being a little past your due date
Good for you for sticking up for you and your baby🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Doctors just be trying to make that money sometimes smh. Shame on him......
