he may also be getting bored. I sometimes have to shake a rattle so he'll finish eating.

my son was doing the same. I changed to a faster flow nipple and he seems to be doing better.

Talk to your doc, sounds like it could be acid reflux, especially with the gagging.

I only tried giving my first born rice cereal in a bottle a couple times and it's been 4 years since then, so I can't really answer your question @mommacat , but it could be that your baby is done with a growth spurt. If your baby seems to be having a hard time keeping the rice cereal down I would recommend taking a break from it and see if that makes a difference. Maybe it's hurting your baby's stomach?

I started my son at 3 months old his.dr suggested it to help his acid reflux and so he'd get fuller.longer cause he was eating 4-6oz every 2 hours

my son used to eat 4 Oz every 3 hours. for the past 2 or 3 weeks he will vary from eating anywhere from 2 to 6 ounces per feeding. each feeding lasts about a half hour or more because it seems once I take the bottle from him to burp him, he wants nothing to do with it afterwards. he spits it out and gags on it. any ideas why? I was thinking if he was getting bored with it? @theemmariefactor @jgled000 @mommagotbump16 @kimberlyyyy

also, a lot of parents don't do it. many say it has no nutritional value and it's empty calories.

From my understanding food before 1 year old is for fun, so in theory you'd be fine just giving them breastmilk or formula for the first year. (Or maybe that's only breastmilk???? Not sure). Although it was recommended at 6 weeks old when my dad was a baby, I don't think it's recommended for that early because their stomachs aren't meant for anything other than milk, plus, rice cereal and stuff doesn't seem to have much nutritional aspects to it. I think most people recommend rice cereal for babies because they think it will help the baby feel full longer and then sleep longer. I feel like it benefits the parents more than the baby.

I would discuss it with his pediatrician. If there's no need for it like reflux, then no reason to start it so early. Most will recommend around 6 months like @jgled000 said.

my dr said 5 or 6 months. their bellies can't digest it well before then.

Docs don't recommend until at least 3 months. 6 is ideal
