rant.... I suffer from several mental illness related issues like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and Borderline Personality Disorder. I posted a picture of common feelings or symptoms of BPD and a couple people I know were saying that they have those symptoms and how it describes them.... I hate when people self diagnose. BPD carries the same symptoms as Bi polar. it took years to get a proper diagnosis and several psychologists. less than 1.6% of people are diagnosed with BPD therefore it's not something that can be self diagnosed nor glamorized. I was an active drug addict for over 10 years and self harmed for 12 years with eating disorders and 5 suicide attempts. I couldn't hold jobs, friends or relationship. a long with many other emotional issues. it's not "cool" to have BPD nor should it be glamorized...ugh sorry.... rant over..

I've been properly medicated, I've been drug and self harm free for over 6 months, my last suicide attempt was almost 3 years ago. I've been doing wonderful especially after being properly treated and diagnosed but it's just frustrating that people glamorize things like mental illness.

@riverbordengovoni, you're the only other person I know with BPD and it's so difficult to explain to people. I tend to stay out of conversation about mental illness cuz it frustrates me so much. BPD is NOT fun to have.

My daughters grandmother is bipolar, is it hereditary. I'm not trying to self diagnose or be insensitive but I question his mental stability at times. She i be concerned for him and my daughter?

@babysweepermama, bipolar can be genetic yes borderline personality disorder however is not genetic and tends to be triggered by abuse or a series of traumatic events, usually in childhood.

if its not cool then why are you posting all this for everyone to see. keep it to yourself. if someone thinks they have it then let them think that and they can see their own dr with concerns.

I absolutely agree and that's exactly how I reacted I even gave them a medical website to look at with concrete facts about the disorder. I was just was just venting on here about self diagnosis.

Amen girl! I too have BPD and i was misdiagnosed with Bi Polar for years! It took inPatient treatment before they discovered my real diagnosis. People don't understand how bad it is. It's hell honestly, but people don't take the illness seriously. Keep pushing forward things will get better!
