@blessedmamaof3, they think that's all he'll need is stitches but the could only get a good look at his cheek last night because there was so much dried blood that he wouldn't let them clean his face

@gabbator95, all dogs have the ability to bite

theres a fine line betweeb vicious dogs and dogs that just bite. either playfully or scared. thats just a random attack. that dog is more than likely to be put down now cause of someone elses carelessness. i wouldnt be bringing any of ny children around dogs unless i get to know them first.. @kellynicole

@blessedmamaof3, @gabbator95 the dog was a pit bull that my uncle was taking care of he grew up around kids I wasn't there but they said the baby was playing with a pillow like tug of war and pulled the pillow away from his face as the dog was trying to bite the pillow he got the baby's face. the thing about that is the parents weren't in the room with the baby only his 6 yr old brother was.... the parents assumed that because the dog didn't continue after the first bite and that it coward in the corner after the attack that it was an accident. they wouldn't let the cops put the dog down the dog and back to its original owners

honestly it wasn't the dogs fault and it shouldn't be put down. your son was unsupervised playing roughly with a dog. my moms basset would have done the same. he's bit my daughter before out of actual anger. this dog was playing and no one was watching. if you ask me its the dogs owners fault not the dogs. why would you let your child around such irresponsible people?

@lakilucid, If you read my post he's not my child he's my nephew and I didn't leave him UN supervised... I never said it was the dogs fault if you read the comments and neither did the parents they stopped it from getting put down

@summer415, my apologies I didn't see that it was your nephew. the fact still remains you put this up here and you know anyone will assume the dog was at fault. it wasn't. your brother or sister or whosever child it is deserves their kids taken for allowing this to happen and endangering not only their kids but their dog as well.

@lakilucid, once again it says in the comments it was considered an accident, if they thought it was the dogs fault they would have put the dog down! the dog was a great dog they were playing accidents happen, I asked for prayers for him going under not for you to lecture with it knowing or reading anything I already said.

@lakilucid, the child is three you can't watch three kids every second of every day they have had the dog for a while and no problems happened, kids play with animals it was there dog. turning away from your kid for a second could result in anything, yes someone should have payed closer attention to the children and the dog but the dog has never done anything like that before it grew up with five kids, the dog felt so bad it was whimpering and crying if it wasn't an accident the dog wouldn't have stopped attacking the child. as soon as the dog left my nephew started crying asking where his puppy went.

Accidents happen. And with a family dog that's been around children all their lives you don't think it could happen to you. I have a 6 year old son and I would be lying if I said I supervise every second he spends with our animals. That's just unrealistic. Our 2 year old mastiff lab mix is an indoor dog and he's been raised with our son since we got him at 3 months old. We trust them playing together and he plays gentle but accidents do happen. It's not the dogs fault or the child's fault and it's definitely not the parents fault. They trusted their dog and there's nothing wrong with that. If it was an attack the dog would have continued hurting the child but it knew it did wrong. I'm sorry that happened to your nephew @summer415. It's terrifying and I hope he has a speedy recovery

update: he is out of surgery and on his way home he got stitches in his cheek, nose and lip!
